Winter-early Spring is a great time for reseeding tired old lawns. Lawns established in the cool winter -spring months have a number of advantages. By winter, resident winter grass and broadleaf weed seeds have self germinated. Spraying out the tired old lawn also takes out these weeds, ensuing new lawn grass is established without problem weeds. Also during winter, damaging cockchafer larvae, if present, have stopped feeding on lawn roots. These later emerge as a harmless black beetle in spring.  Winter and spring reseeded lawns take longer to germinate and establish in colder soil conditions than autumn sown lawns. One of the main advantages of winter reseeding is that only sporadic watering is required during establishment, as winter rainfall does the rest.
